The short version
Lantern has no accounts and no sign-in. Your progress is saved on your own phone and we never receive it. If you choose to watch an optional ad, Google provides it. If you buy something, Apple or Google take the payment and RevenueCat confirms it for us. That is all.
Who we are
Lantern is made by Lydia Amadi Chinyere, based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for any personal information described here. You can contact us at [contact email].
Information stored on your device
Your progress, settings, the name you give your traveller, your lantern, your purchases record and an optional playtest log are saved on your phone. We do not run our own game servers and we do not receive this information. Deleting the app, or choosing Reset progress in Settings, removes it.
Advertising
If you choose to watch an optional video to revive, the ad is provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, your approximate location from your IP address and how you interact with the ad, to show and measure ads. On iPhone you will be asked whether to allow tracking. If you say no, ads are not personalised. If you buy No ads, no ads are shown at all. See Google's privacy policy.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your name, address or payment details. We use RevenueCat to confirm what you have bought, so we can restore it on a new phone. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase history for Lantern. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Playing with a friend
In Two Lanterns, your traveller name and your lantern's position are shared with the people in the same room code while you play. Nothing is kept after the room closes.
This website
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address only to tell you when Lantern launches. We use a form service to store it. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
- Fonts. This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
- Hosting. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security, for a short time.
- Cookies. We do not set cookies or use analytics on this site.
Our lawful basis
We rely on your consent for the waitlist and personalised ads, and on our legitimate interest in running the game and the website safely for everything else.
Children
Lantern has nothing unsuitable for younger players, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us their email address, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Because the game keeps your data on your phone, the quickest way to remove it is to delete the app. For purchase records, contact us and we will ask RevenueCat to delete them. For ad data, use the controls in your phone's settings or contact Google. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For big changes, we will say so in the game.
